How To Distinguish High Quality Boots From Poor Ones

!: How To Distinguish High Quality Boots From Poor Ones

What are high quality boots? We know brand names that are associated with quality for example Doc Martins. In the past they have been so well thought of that the police and the military have used them. We all know this, if not consciously, then unconsciously. The name Doc Martins is another word for excellent footwear.

But how do we really know that they are good quality. We are basically relying on there reputation and probably don't study the seam and the weight of the boot itself. It's a pair of Docs so why not buy them. Everyone else does. This article is going to give a brief overview of what to look for when buying high quality boots.

First all have a look at the heel. The boot may look very nice from the top with just the style you are looking for, but a real quality boot will have a leather heel. If you look closely at the heel you can see that the leather is stacked. This is a mark of quality. Cheaper shoes tend to have laminated heels.

The stitching is also a major factor. We all know the famous yellow stitching of Doc Martins, yet if we look closely at this stitching we will see it is very intricate, and if weren't for the color would hardly be noticeable. Cheaper shoes tend to have bigger stitching that not only looks unattractive but also comes apart after a short space of time. Boots don't have to be perfect. The main aim for a shoemaker is to get it to fit the feet. That's where the real quality comes in.

So by far the best way to check the quality of the boot is to try it on. But don't just sit there admiring the style, walk around the shop. A good quality shoe or boot should be comfortable. There should be absolutely no rubbing on your feet and you should feel support on the ankles.

Remember though to think why you are buying the shoes. They maybe of fantastic quality, but if you buy Doc Martins for mountain climbing they just won't last. Hiking boots are best for this and for these you maybe looking for slightly different features. For example grip and cushioning.

If you want quality shoes you will mostly like have to pay a lot of money for them. Real boot makers no doubt make the best quality handmade shoes. You can also get excellent quality in specialist shops that have a small client focus. Shops like this tend to try and attract people that want quality, so have a look. Discount shoe shops will not necessarily be of the highest quality, but this in the cheap prices.

Restaurants in Santa Teresa

!: Restaurants in Santa Teresa

When you take the tram from Largo da Carioca to Santa Teresa you will first pass over the peculiar aqueduct and then snake your way up the winding streets of Santa Teresa. You will pass by beautiful old mansions and probably notice how peaceful and green and peaceful everything is. Many people visiting choose to get off at Largo de Guimaraes, not only because it is kind of the center of the neighbourhood but also for all the good restaurants you have here.

What you most here about is how many artists and painters that live here and they make it pretty obvious. It seems like people dress like Inspector Closeau would have if it was to be disguised as a painter. Big beards, smoking pipes, striped stained shirts and a wild look never went out of fashion here. Even though the art scene may be a bit backwards, the food definitely is not. There are many excellent places that serve food both innovative and good as well as well cooked classic Brazilian food. Here are some examples:

Bar do Arnaudo Address: R. Almirante Alexandrino 316, open: Mon 12h/18h Tue-Fri 12h/23h Sat, Sun, Holidays 12h/20:30h, phone: 2210-0817. This is one of my favourites with really good food from the North East. The Carne de Sol com Aipim is delicious but you have many other regional specialties. They have a large selection of cachaça as well. Cozy interior in a beautiful house.

Bar do Mineiro Address: R. Paschoal Carlos Magno 99, open: Tue-Sat from 11h Sun 11h/20h, phone: 2221-9227. The most famous and a classic hangout for the bohemians of Santa Teresa. But I have it here because of the food as well. On Saturdays and Sundays they serve the traditional dish feijoada, a kind of a black bean stew with a little bit of everything, the one you get here is always good. The snack food is also delicious.

Bistrô Solar Address: Ladeira do Meirelles 32, open: Fri-Sun 12h/21h, phone: 2221-2117. This is the place if you like experiment. By using various fruits, vegetables, spices and plants they have a very innovative menu. How about crab balls with chili jelly?

Espírito Santa Address: R. Almirante Alexandrino 264, open: Tue, Wed 11:30h/17h Thu-Sat 11:30h/00h Sun 11:30h/19h, phone: 2508-7095. Another restaurant with a clear Brazilian theme with food from all regions. They serve more traditional dishes as well some more experimental. They also have a good selection of cachaças, the drink & wine list is good.

Sobrenatural Address: R. Almirante Alexandrino 432, open: Everyday from 12 until midnight, phone: 2224-. A restaurant with a nice rustic interior. It is specialized in fish and other seafood, in Rio that is a rare thing so it´s nice to find a good restaurant like this one.

All of these restaurants are located in Santa Teresa, but some are not easy to reach so a taxi would be the best option. Bom Apetite!
